Flowers & Chocolate Caramels

Chocolate Caramels

“I love sprinkles and anything with swirls,” says creative baker Stephanie Lindblom, whom I noticed popping up everywhere all over town – and figured, wow, she must really be good to be allowed a pop-up store at The Pottery Barn – inside the store no-less! She has also been featured at Willow Gardens, Gazebo Gardens, and other popular store-front locales in and around FRESburg & Beyond!

Chickies delivers anywhere in Fresno and Madera, and for Mother’s Day she has special treat boxes for sale amongst her bakery items, which you can also pick up this Sunday, May 14th in Madera from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Madera Wine Trail:  at the San Joaquin Wine Company, 21821 Avenue 16.

Macaron: A sweet, meringue-based confection made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, ground almond, and food coloring. It commonly consists of a ganache, buttercream, or jam filling. This gives them a gluten-free designation normally.

In a wide variety of flavors, traditional are raspberry and chocolate with new flavors constantly emerging – like Matcha Green tea or salted caramel. They are often said to be difficult to make, especially if humidity is high.

Purportedly produced in Venetian monestaries since the 8th Century A.D., they began to acquire fame in 1792 when two Carmelite nuns seeking asylum during the French Revolution baked and sold them to pay for their housing.

It was not until the 1830’s that they began to be sandwiched together with the additions of jams, liqueurs and spices.

In Paris and Australia, McDonald’s sells them in their McCafes. They are now gaining popularity in North America, having only been on the scene since about 2010!
